As our nation celebrates its 250th anniversary this summer - and as the fireworks of Independence Day are still fresh in our memory - it is fitting to reflect on what has made America's light visible to the world: not its power or its wealth, but the character of its people. Ordinary men and women who believed in something worth sacrificing for, and who let that commitment show in how they lived.

That same idea - that character is the truest light we can offer the world - is at the heart of this counsel from the Savior:

Matthew 5:16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

At our stake Young Women's camp last month, faithful leaders showed their lights all week - and then organized a closing testimony meeting around five simple words: "Bring your burdens to Christ." The young women responded with moving, heartfelt testimonies. It was discipleship at its finest - not argument or pressure, but light, followed by a loving invitation.

Two hundred and fifty years ago, a group of ordinary people lit a flame that changed the world by committing to something greater than themselves. We are invited to do the same - not for a nation, but for the eternal salvation of those we love. This week, ask yourself one question: "Is my light on?" And when the moment is right, offer someone you love five words: "Bring your burdens to Christ."

THE SACRED ROLE OF FATHERS AND MOTHERS

Fathers and mothers should work together to provide each of their children with a shield of faith.

Fathers are to preside in love and righteousness.

Fathers are to provide their families with the necessities of life and protection.

Mothers participate in God’s work.

Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children.

Fathers and mothers are to help one another as equal partners.

MISSIONARY CORNER

i wanted to share about something that i was studying this past week in the old testament. if you dont know the story of Lot and his family; they lived in an AWFUL city and they were told by God to leave and dont look back, they listened but as they were leaving Lots wife, desiring to go back, looked back and she turned into a pillar of salt.

in our lives we far too often live in the past but the past is meant to be learned from, not lived in. when you've overcome a struggle WHY look back theres nothing back there for you, pick your head up nd keep moving forward. Sometimes its a choice you made and youre unsure, so you look back because of the unsurity but THE FACT OF THE MATTER is the choice has been made so why are you looking back as if it can be changed !? Part of trusting in God is moving forward in faith, the past often is comfortable because its familiar to us, but why tumble down the hill you just fought so valiantly to climb. Dont look back, we all have our modern day Sodom and Gomorrah and when you face them "Remember Lots wife"
